What Is Reiki?

REIKI (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese word signifying the union of universal and personal energy. REI is the all-pervading, luminous, eternal energy field of Spirit. KI is the vital spirit energy close to and within the physical body. Focused caring touch, done by a trained practitioner, conveys Reiki energy to a client to enhance his/her natural healing process. This energy is accessible to anyone with healing needs.

Reiki Healing is the legacy of Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese scholar and educator. At the beginning of the 20th century, he undertook a search to discover the meaning of life. His research into ancient scriptural texts and his personal journey and vision were manifested in a hands-on healing form. Its traditional Western branch is now known as the Usui System of Reiki Healing, and it is taught worldwide by Reiki Masters trained in its traditions and forms. It is easily learned by those wanting to assist their own healing or that of family and friends.  Once you have been trained, Reiki is easy to use and the ability to use it will never leave you.

What To Expect

The length of each session is adjusted to the time available, usually lasting from 60 to 90 minutes. It consists of the gentle placement of the practitioner's hands (on the head, shoulders torso and back) in a sequence of traditional positions on the recipient's body. The hands remain for 3-5 minutes at each spot without manipulation of any sort.

The energy being transferred penetrates clothing quite effectively, allowing the client to remain fully clothed. During a session you can expect to have a safe, comfortable environment in which you can relax; to sit or lie comfortably on a cushioned chair, massage table or bed and to be treated by someone who is gentle and caring, but not intrusive.
