Key Stone Reiki practices a form of Reiki known as the Usui System of Reiki Healing, which came to the West through the lineage of Mikao Usui, Chujiro Hayashi, and Hawayo Takata.
In the 1920’s, Mikao Usui offered Reiki healing services throughout Japan. He also taught countless students before his death in 1926.
Dr. Chujiro Hayashi, a physician and retired Japanese naval officer, received his Reiki attunement from Mikao Usui in the middle 1920’s. Dr. Hayashi opened a Reiki healing clinic in Tokyo and kept records of the treatments given. Dr. Hayashi used information from these treatments to give more form to the practice and teaching of Reiki, including the development of a standard set of hand positions.
In the 1930’s, Hawayo Takata traveled to Tokyo from her home in Hawaii to seek healing assistance for serious illnesses. She experienced complete healing after receiving a series of Reiki healing treatments at Dr. Hayashi’s clinic. Mrs. Takata eventually became fully trained in Reiki healing, and brought the Usui System of Reiki Healing out of Japan to the West. Reiki healing has spread from North America around the globe.
The Usui System of Reiki Healing consists of a specific treatment form, illustrated in the photographs below. Additionally, it divides training in Reiki healing into three levels, which are described more fully in the Training section of this web site.
These photographs demonstrate the 12 hand positions which are used in the traditional Usui System of Reiki Healing. However, it is important to remember that what is being established in Reiki Healing systems is the connection between recipient, practitioner and the energy source. Precise placement of hands is secondary to the establishment and transmission of that connection.
