Journeys of Life Book and Gift Store in Pittsburgh’s Shadyside neighborhood, has served as a comprehensive resource for music, handcrafted jewelry, feng shui, Tibetan statuary, crystals & gemstones, windchimes and 12 Step Recovery books and gifts since it first opened in 1989. On November 13th, a fire swept through the store on Bellefont Street, leaving the building reasonably intact but decimating the store’s contents and inventory.
Jean Haller, the owner of Journeys of Life, has posted a video on the store’s Facebook page (link below) describing the fire damage and the store’s plans to open for the holiday season at a temporary Walnut Street location next to the Shadyside Market, thanks to the generosity of many from across the country. Restoration of the Bellefont location is slated for mid January.
Next Saturday, November 26th, is the second annual “Small Business Saturday”, a national effort which encourages Americans to “shop small, shop local”. Friends of Journeys of Life are invited to continue their patronage of this Pittsburgh institution; our support is particularly vital this holiday season.
